Anyone who has been exposed to the reality of life knows that not every man who is convicted and jailed is actually guilty of the crimes he is accused and convicted of committing. As a former Deputy Sheriff in California I can assure you that during my years in law enforcement I found it to be true.

I also found that while about 50 percent of most departments are made up of good decent honest individuals there is about 20 to 30 of the balance that with close supervision and proper training might be able to do the job properly while the remaining 20 to 30 percent have no business being in law enforcement and should not be there at all.

I also found that cops like anyone else are competitive people. Many are willing to be creative when they feel it necessary to make sure that those they feel are guilty get punished. They are willing to alter evidence or create evidence where none existed. They are willing to give false testimony. They are willing to withhold or throw away exculpitory evidence. It exists at all levels of law enforcement not just the local or state level. Gerry Spence during trial caught the FBI in lie after lie as well as fabricating evidence while defending Randy Weaver.

I have seen juries convict on the slightest evidence. Many people will feel when asked by others about a defendant, "well he must have done something wrong, he was arrested", when many times all one has to do is question what an officer is doing or fail to immediately submit to the officer every command. Law enforcement is given enormous authority and discretion that very few judges will even dare to challenge for fear of being labeled "soft on crime".

In the case of my friend Trevor Fing I think you have a combination of all of the above. Rogue cops, prosecutors who feel every defendant is guilty and are only interested in convictions and have little regard for the truth. Jurors that are willing to convict anyone of anything not realizing, "that but for the grace of God there go I". A judge that is a team player and will make sure that every defendant gets a fair trail and a proper hanging whether they did it or not.

Justice in Australia is no different than anywhere else people believe in good ideals but are unwilling to hold those who have sworn to uphold the law to the highest standard. Laws should be enforced, but especially toward those who took the oath and swore to uphold those laws. Without that you have no justice you have only JUST US!

TREVOR FING IS A GOOD AND DECENT MAN AND SHALL ALWAYS BE MY FRIEND!

I hope all will enjoy reading Trevor's book, Heaven's Gate. My heart especially go's out to Lynette who has been through hardship after hardship and the boys Damien, Daniel and Jacob who have never stopped loving their father. The boys have also never failed to respect and stand by their mother.
